The Growth of Leftist Movements in South America in Response to Trade Problems with the USAs in the 1920’s, with all the social unrest-WWI-WII-The Generals-The Dirty War- failure of neo-liberalism (most recently Bolivia, and in 2006, Peru), the peasants and workers are troubled by what they describe as American interference. In the US, we fail to remember that most of the rest of the world is a class oriented system. There are no other systems as the USA’s.The World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and US international economic policy and the US War on Terror have precipitated protests and electoral movements to push for workers rights, environmental and natural resource protection.Protest leaders are mindful of Bush’s statements before the Quebec Summit of 33 Hemisphere Governments in April 2001. He said that free trade was about trade, and business, and that worker’s rights would not be considered if they blocked or hindered free trade.Financial crises have also brought forward Marxist, leftist and socialist leaders who have called for and led strikes against most of the free trade agreements with the USA. | |
